Other accommodation near Rugby

The town of Rugby, with a population of just under one hundred thousand people, is the second largest city in the county of Warwickshire but in terms of importance and cultural relevance it is hard to think of a city more appropriate than Rugby. Most people are aware of the fact that the game of Rugby originated in this city and, while that is certainly admirable and fascinating, there is much more to Rugby than the sport itself.

The Industrial Revolution would in fact drastically alter the town of Rugby in much the same way that it forever changed towns like Birmingham. As soon as heavy industry hit the town Rugby grew exponentially and countless workers flooded into the town bringing much income to the rapidly rising city. When the Rugby Railway Station was finished in 1838 it signaled even more promise for the already advantageous city and the population witnessed yet another explosion.

As mentioned above, Rugby was invented in the town of Rugby but many people aren't aware of some of the other fascinating inventions that Rugby can lay claim to. When steam locomotion was just a pipe dream it was the British Railways company that tested and perfected the craft and it was the town of Rugby that the tests took place in. Similarly, the jet engine was born in Rugby in 1937. Frank Whittle, the inventor of the jet engine, was working in Rugby's British Thomson-Houston Works when he finally cracked the code and invented the engine that would forever change the world we live in.

Anybody visiting Rugby today will be treated to a vast array of fascinating sights. The Rugby School Museum is great for those interested in the history of education while the Rugby Football Museum is the perfect destination for sports fans. The truth of the matter is that there is really something for everything in this definitive town and the best way to experience the real Rugby is to simply walk around the city and take in the many fantastic visual phenomena that can be seen everywhere you turn. If you have yet to step foot into Rugby see to it that you put it on your bucket list before it is too late. You'll hate yourself if you miss out on this treasure trove of wonder.
