Other accommodation near Ruthin

Ruthin, which is both a community and a county town, is located in Denbighshire in the northern part of Wales, around a hill in the Vale of Clwyd, which is the older part of the town, that is located next to the Clwyd river. Ruthin has a long history, and due to that it has a lot of still standing buildings of historical significance.

Also Ruthin is very close to the sea, which makes it an ideal location to stay in while on a trip with your friends, family and kids, or by yourself. You're far away from all the noise and commotion, but whenever you'd want to reach the sea for a day of fun, you'll be able to.

Ruthin got its name from the Welsh language - rhudd which means red, and din which means fort, which was a reference to the red sandstones that form the area, and are the stones from which the castle was constructed back in 1277 to 1284. Ruthin was originally called Castell Coch yng Ngwwrn-for, or red castle in the sea-swamps.

Ruthin has a population of about 5,300 people.

Ruthin has evidence of both Celtic and Roman settlements being located where the town now stands, but not much is known of those settlement and the town's history. The most that is known comes after the Ruthin Castle was constructed back in 1277 by Dafydd, who was the prince's brother. Dafydd later lost the castle due a rebellion he planned with his brothers, against King Edward the first.

Ruthin boasts being the birth place of Sir Thomas Exmewe, who was a Lord Mayor if the City of London back in 1517 and 1518. While in Ruthin you might want to visit the local attractions and points of interest, which include the old court house, which was built around 1401, and is still standing - to this day, but serves as a branch of the NatWest Bank, and is built in a half-timbered style.

Ruthin suffered during an eleven week siege during the English Civil War, but the castle survived the siege, but it was demolished and later rebuilt in the 19th century and served as a country house. The castle is now a luxury hotel called Ruthin Castle Hotel.

Ruthin is also famous for being the first place in which the Welsh national anthem was printed in. The place it was printed in still stands, but now serves as a tea and gift shop. Also back in 1863 that railway arrived to Ruthin, and linked it with places like Denbigh as well as London and many other locations.

Also, while visiting Ruthin you might want to enjoy the local sports events, such as watching the local football games being played by the Ruthin Town F.C., or watching the local rugby team - the Ruthin R.F.C, or the Ruthun R.F.C. as they are known in the Welsh language. There are also various other types of sports being played in the area.
