Spanhoe Lodge is situated in the heart of Rockingham Forest, on the edge of the Welland Valley, some 2 miles from the border with Rutland, England's smallest and some say prettiest county. Ideally placed between Corby and Stamford, the cities of Peterborough and Leicester are little more than 30 minutes drive away, as are the towns of Market Harborough and Melton Mowbray.

The picturesque market town of Uppingham is 6 miles away and Oundle 8 miles. Oakham, the county town of Rutland, is just a 20-minute drive away. Beautiful Rutland Water is situated close by and offers most watersports, rock climbing, fishing, bird watching and a 23 mile cycle route.

Rockingham Forest was an ancient hunting forest that dates back to William the Conqueror. Famous and wealthy families have repeatedly chosen the area for their homes, which is why the region boasts a wealth of historic houses set in beautiful parklands, many of which are open to the public.

The new Rockingham Speedway, just 3 miles from Spanhoe Lodge, is the first oval banked circuit to be built in the UK since Brooklands in 1907. The one and a half mile (Indy 500) circuit will also incorporate three smaller tracks for other motor sports, such as road racing, historic and motorcycle events.

Steve and Jennie offer superb, friendly accommodation in a quiet and pretty location. Our three new purpose built rooms are well appointed with large en-suite bathrooms. All rooms have television, video and a full hospitality tray. There is more than ample parking on our two acre site. Secure parking is available by prior arrangement. There is also a small gym available and a full sized snooker room.

For our disabled guests, one of our rooms has direct access (through French Doors) from the parking area via a gently sloping ramp. Ideal for families are our connecting rooms which give parents peace and privacy whilst having the children close at hand. A high/low chair and cot are also available.

Spanhoe Lodge takes its name from the WW2 US airbase on which our house is built. There remains a small runway for light aircraft, and therefore "high fliers" can arrive in their own plane, (strictly by prior arrangement). Transfers to and from our local intercity rail terminals can also be arranged.A couple of miles down the road our friendly local inn, The White Swan, has a superb restaurant and for those without transport we can offer a shuttle service.

Historic Stamford - Just a short distance away!
