Nestling deep within the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, just waiting to be discovered, The Springs retains those traditional values associated with the great country houses of England and yet we are only an hour away from Central London, 25 minutes from Oxford and Reading and 45 minutes from Heathrow. The Springs Hotel is a fine example of a 3-star Victorian Tudor-style country house. Constructed in 1874, overlooking a spring fed lake, the Hotel has been sympathetically extended to include 31 guest rooms and suites.

In the oak panelled reception rooms, you will find crackling log fires in open hearths and comfortable upholstered chairs creating a solid - uniquely English - atmosphere. We have a variety of elegant function rooms ideal for your special, more private celebrations. Special menus are available for children. You will only complete your appreciation of The Springs when you have tasted the gourmet skills of our Chefs in our 2 AA rosette Lakeside Restaurant or our Clubhouse; both are open to non-residents.

From our restaurant or your bedroom window, you may glimpse the swans gliding majestically about their business in the subtle lighting of the spring fed lake. Each bedroom is equipped with bath (or jacuzzi), satellite TV, hair dryer, trouser press, coffee and tea making facilities and a direct dial telephone. We have a variety of spacious rooms, some with balconies and lake views.

Feeling energetic - then play 18 holes on the Hotels' own golf course or indulge in a bit of putting. You could also enjoy a game of croquet or a spot of fishing on the banks of the river Thames. The 'Ridgeway' walk, possibly the most ancient 'green road' in the world, runs alongside the Hotel and Golf Club and can be enjoyed as a short stroll or a more vigorous walk. The Hotels' mountain bikes are also an alternative way to discover the beauty of the Oxfordshire countryside, as is a boat trip along the Thames. On a warm summer's evening, you may sit by the pool or in the spacious gardens and enjoy the tranquillity of the peaceful surroundings. Children and dogs are welcome.

Things to do and places to visit. Using 'The Springs' as your base, you can explore the historic market towns of Newbury, Wallingford and Abingdon. You can browse through Hungerford's marvellous antique shops and markets, or visit the new Oracle shopping arcade in Reading. Admire ancient Oxford colleges and museums, bask in the splendours of Blenheim Palace, or be humbled by the beauty of St George's Chapel in Windsor. Other excursions might include Shakespeare's Stratford, a day at the races in Ascot or Newbury, the opera at Garsington, Henley Regatta and Festival, or a show in London or Oxford - chauffeur driven if you wish! Whatever you decide, you will enjoy the rural peace, historic places and abundant wildlife that the Thames Valley has to offer you.
