St. Andrews in Fife is best known as the "Home of Golf". Its population is only 17000 with most residents in one way or another attracted or involved in the world of golf. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club hold the legislative rights over the game worldwide (except the USA and Mexico). The local Links golf Course has been the most frequented venue for The Open, the oldest golf major in the world. People from all four corners of the world travel to St Andrews to play golf on one of the many golf courses that are located here. Since 2007 there has been an addition to the golf course family making the total of courses available in St Andrews to 7. The names of the courses are: Old, New, Jubilee, Eden, Strathtyrum and Balgove. The new course was erected at Kinkell Braes.

If you have other plans or if you want to leave your partner in peace whilst playing golf you can visit some of the oldest places in Scotland. The Holy Trinity tower church has a rich past as it has been moved several times and revamped more than once in its 775+ years of existence. The ruins of the Dominican Friary are also worth noticing on the grounds of Madras College which can be traced back to the 13th century. Just east of St Andrews you can still see the Cathedral which once was visited by Robert the Bruce when it was consecrated back in 1318. Another ruin is the castle of St Andrews to the north of the town which is built on top of the cliffs bearing down on the North Sea. The colleges and Universities are well worth a look and they include Madrass College on South Street with The University located here being the oldest one in Scotland dating back to 1410. The astonishing Classics building is worth not only a look, but also a roll of film for a photo camera.
