| York is one of the world's most fascinating cities. The history of York, Capital of the North and Second City of the realm, is the History of England |
 | In York you can become a part of English history, visit the magnificent Minster, view Roman remains at the Yorkshire Museum, sample the Viking way of life at the Jorvik Viking Centre, defend the city from attack at Clifford's Tower, conduct business at the 14th Century Merchant Adventurers Hall, imagine yourself a prosperous Georgian merchant in Fairfax House or window shop in a typical Victorian street at the Castle Museum |
Whichever direction you approach York from, you will arrive at the outer ring road. Take the shortest circuit to the York - Hull A1079 junction (see map) Take the exit signposted York - Hull A1079 and drive along this road for 2.4 miles until you come to the traffic lights at the old bar walls. At the lights, take the centre lane and follow the traffic through the bar walls on to Walmgate. 500 yards along Walmgate you will have to turn left on the one way system, you will then see the hotel opposite the church |
