Raven Hotel, Much Wenlock, Shropshire

Originally a fine coaching inn, which in later years has been combined with what are believed to be ancient almshouses and a medieval hall. Privately owned, this fourteen bedroom, three star hotel, in the heart of Shropshire, is an ideal base for business or pleasure.

The restaurant, awarded two rosettes by the AA, overlooks a delightful inner courtyard and serves food with an emphasis on local produce and fresh ingredients.

Finished to a high standard, the en-suite bedrooms offer spacious and comfortable accommodation. The décor of each room is individual and we have both a four poster and galleried suite, ideal for that special occasion. Some rooms are accessed via the inner courtyard, where ground floor accommodation is available.

Much Wenlock has become famous for hosting the forerunner of the modern day Olympic games. The local GP, DR. William Penny Brookes created the games, which have run from 1850 to the current day. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who went on to instigate the modern day Olympic games, made a noteworthy speech at The Raven Hotel when he visited to view the Wenlock games that Dr. Brookes had formed.

Developed around the Benedictine Priory, built in AD 1080, on the site of a former abbey, the streets and buildings of Much Wenlock reflects the history which followed.

Places to visit include Wenlock Priory, The World Heritage site of Ironbridge (the birthplace of The Industrial revolution) Buildwas Abbey and Benthall Hall.

For visitors who enjoy walking, the breathtaking Long Mynd and beauty of the Wenlock Edge, are contrasting areas of Shropshire countryside at its best.

The business centre of Telford is within fifteen minutes drive
