Balmillig is a cosy family home set in secluded gardens in a quiet area of this beautiful town. Completed in 2001, the house was carefully conceived to provide a comfortable home with modern facilities while outwardly reflecting the old character and charm of the surrounding conservation area. Balmillig has been awarded '4 stars' by the Scottish Tourist Board which indicates a very high standard of accommodation. We make the house a friendly, relaxing home and we're sure you'll enjoy sharing it with us.

Comfortable bedrooms
All our bedrooms have views over gardens. They are equipped with underfloor heating, electric blankets, tea and coffee making facilities, Wireless internet access, TV,DVD player and radio alarm. All rooms have luxurious ensuite shower rooms and we can offer a choice of twin, double or queen sized beds.

Choice at breakfast
We offer fruit juice, cereals, fruit, toasted bread, oatcakes, homemade marmalade, and a choice of freshly cooked eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and tattie scones. Variety of teas or coffee available; have some or all, the choice is yours.

Parking
There is plenty of space for parking within the grounds.

HELENSBURGH

Planned in the 18th Century by Sir James Colquhoun of Luss and named after his wife, Helen, the town has spectacularly leafy streets which are justly famous for their fine architecture and stunning springtime displays of daffodils, rhododendron, apple and cherry blossom. Helensburgh is well placed for touring this beautiful area where Highlands and Lowlands meet.

Helensburgh is only 45 mins by either car or frequent train to Glasgow andonly 35 mins by car from Glasgow Airport. The world famous West Highland Railway Line is just 5 mins walk from Balmillig.

  • Pleasure cruises including Waverley - the world's last sea going paddle steamer which sails from Helensburgh Pier

  • Loch Lomond International Golf Course.
  • Loch Lomond Shores and National Park Gateway Centre - major visitor attraction telling the story of Scotland's most famous loch. Includes beautiful Balloch Park, canoe and bike hire, loch cruises and top quality shopping.
  • Luss - A pretty conservation village. Walks and loch cruises.
  • Arrochar - Hillwalking and climbing on the Arrochar Alps
  • Alexandria - Shopping at Antartex & Loch Lomond Factory Outlets. Motor museum.
  • Dumbarton - Castle, Denny Ship Tank, Wave machine swimming pool.
  • Rosneath Peninsula - Lovely views over sealochs, good walks and pleasant cycling.

  • East Loch Lomond - Distillery, pottery, galleries, long distance footpath, Ben Lomond.
  • Falkirk Wheel - Gigantic, unique rotating boatlift linking two canals. Nothing like it anywhere else in the world and you can take a ride on it!
  • Inveraray - Beautiful conservation town, old jail, sailing ship, stately home of Duke of Argyll.
  • Glasgow - Outstanding architecture, covered shopping, theatres & concert halls, world renowned galleries & museums, lively cafes and restaurants.
  • Trossachs - Forests, woollen centres, SS Sir Walter Scott's cruises, Rob RoyCentre, exciting "Go Ape" treetop zip slides and ropes course.
  • Stirling - mediaeval fortified former capital of Scotland, superb ancient buildings, royal castle, shopping centre, water slides, Wallace Monument.

Travel Directions

BY ROAD
From the south the best route is to stay on the M74 and M8 motorways following the Loch Lomond signs to cross the Clyde at the Erskine Bridge. Then take the A82 and A818 to Helensburgh via Loch Lomond or take the A82 and A814 to Helensburgh via Dumbarton and Cardross.

From the north leave the A82 three miles south of Luss by turning right onto the B832

From the east on A811 from Stirling, turn north onto the A82 at Balloch then take the A818 (signed Helensburgh).


BY RAIL
Half hourly electric train service from Glasgow to Helensburgh Central or West Highland Railway from Fort William or Glasgow to Helensburgh Upper Station.

BY AIR
From Prestwick Airport travel north via M77 to M8 and then follow 'BY ROAD' from the South' instructions.From Glasgow Airport exit airport onto M8 travelling west towards Erskine Bridge and follow 'BY ROAD' instructions.
