Ullapool in the Scottish Highland is close to many areas of the Scottish highlands that people enjoy visiting. This quaint little town is a popular stop for tourist in the Scottish Highlands, with its magnificent scenery, its tranquil atmosphere and its location.
What can be said for the scenery? It's the thing that postcards are made of, that's the best way to describe it. With the backdrop of Fishcerfields and An Teallach mountains who wouldn't want to get out and at the very least have a nature walk to look around. Be careful though, many of the mountains near Ullapool are considered Munros Mountains meaning they are three thousand feet or more in height. These can become very treacherous if you don't be careful. If you are planning a hike around or on one of the mountains be sure to have a map and a compass so that you can be aware of where you are at all times. The best course of action, especially for those unfamiliar with the territory, is to stick to looking at them from a distance and hiking the smaller hills or straight paths.
One of the greatest ways to see the scenery is to take the ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway Island. On the ferry you might have the opportunity to see some of the wildlife as well as check out the scenery as you leave Ullapool and go spend the day on Stornoway Island.
There are many other things to do in this small town that don't require you to have a GPS system to ensure you find your way back to your hotel. For those that are interested in water sports you can enjoy surfing, fishing, diving or you can enjoy a cruise. Many that come to the area enjoy chartering a boat for the day. You can charter boats for either fishing or diving. Some of the diving is wreck diving which gives visitors a neat option to dive and view some of the most interesting, if not photogenic, wrecks in all of Scotland.
This is the Scottish Highland, and what would a town in the Scottish Highlands be without an excellent place to play a game of golf? Well it really wouldn't be a tourist town if that was the case. Ullapool has golfing opportunities for those who want to enjoy the game in it birthplace. The Golspie Golf Club offers visitors a challenging course coupled with changing scenery along the course and a friendly welcome. This golf club, which was founded in the late 1800s, has the standard eighteen holes and can be played by anyone of varying playing levels.
