The town of Ventnor is just one out of the many gorgeous seaside resort towns to be found in the pristine Isle of Wight. While it would certainly be quite a feat to single out one town to be definitive of the incredible beauty of the Isle of Wight, Ventnor is most assuredly evocative of the best features that the Isle has to offer. For one, Ventnor sits comfortably under the imposing St. Boniface Down. St. Boniface Down towers to an incredible seven hundred and eighty feet above sea level and is far and away the tallest point on the Isle of Wight. Like many locations in the area, St. Boniface is made of chalk and it commands a large presence that is second only to locations like the White Cliffs of Dover in terms of beauty and prestige. The Down also contains a famous wishing well that attracts countless thrill seekers.
The fortuitous placement of Ventnor under the St. Boniface Down gives the town a climate that is different from nearly every other part of England. Ventnor has far more sunny days than every other location on the Isle of Wight and this gives it a more tropical climate, offering such treasures as subtropical plants that can't be grown anywhere else. This has given Ventnor even more fame around the world and it has also allowed Ventnor to have one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world. To be sure, the Ventnor Botanic Garden houses exotic plants from as far away as Japan and Australia. The visitor center is topnotch and nearly every part of the Botanic Garden evokes the feeling of a Mediterranean climate.
There is more than just natural beauty that attracts thousands of visitors to Ventnor's shores, though. Ventnor is well known for its bountiful crab harvests and, to celebrate this legacy, the town hosts the immensely popular Crab Fayre each year. There is also an enormous carnival held each August that offers some of the most exciting rides and attractions in the area. The most popular event, though, is without a doubt the famed Isle of Wight International Jazz Festival. Since 2005 this fantastic three day fest has filled the hearts and minds of visitors and residents alike with awe and wonder. Nearly every Jazz great worth mentioning makes it a point to appear at this esteemed event. The Ventnor Brewery is also incredibly popular with tourists and it has sat at the same place in town since the 1840s. Sadly, many people report that the brewery is on the way out because of mounting debts so it would be prudent to visit the city as soon as possible if the brewery is one of the reasons for going. Whether you care about the brewery or not, though, the fact remains that Ventnor truly has something for everybody and a visit to the town is an experience that will never be forgotten no matter how long you live and no matter what else you see for the rest of your life.
