The Windmill + Windmill House,

Take a step back in time:
The Windmill + Windmill House,

Splash Mill was named after the ford running through the village - now a quaint duck pond with a small stream running along the back of the Mill. Ducks and the occasional swan regularly sail past the windows……..

Although the Mill is a relatively modern structure the timbers that form it date from The Napoleonic Wars and came from Tilbury Docks. The internal staircases are over 200 years old!

Furnishing this octagonal building has been challenging but fun.

The Windmill + Windmill House,

The Windmill is regularly used for film shoots and has featured in several magazine and newspaper articles. The most recent of these was in "House Beautiful" magazine in July 2004.
It was subject to a "makeover" in September 2004 which was screened on Granada Television's "60 Minute Makeover" programme in February 2005. A video of this programme is available for guests to watch.

It is well known as a landmark by pilots travelling to Heathrow Airport which is 5 miles away.

Considerable refurbishing has taken place since then and the Windmill is now a romantic and totally unique place to stay.

The accommodation ranges over 4 floors:

The main entrance is through a stable door into the galley kitchen with butcher's block work surfaces and a Butler's sink.Double-oven electric cooker, microwave and fridge/freezer add the modern conveniences.

Two steps up and down again lead into the Lounge with dining area furnished with comfortable chairs, sofa, large TV with digibox, video; stereo with CD and a mahogany dining table.

The Windmill + Windmill House,

Access from the Lounge leads to a back door with porch and a shower room with w.c and wash basin.

The first floor has access to a walkway which runs around the exterior of the building with outdoor tables and seating. As the Mill overlooks The Bowling Club Green weekend matches can be enjoyed from an excellent vantage point!

The largest bedroom is on this floor with a king-size four poster bed with drapes - The Rose Room.

The Windmill + Windmill House,

Stairs up lead to the 2nd floor and a bathroom with bath/shower, w.c. and wash basin.

Access from the landing leads to The Regal Room - a double-bedded room furnished in old pine with navy and gold heraldic crested bed drapes.

A further stair case inside this room goes to the third floor - the Attic Room- which can be used as additional dressing or sitting space or as another bedroom. This room contains a standard single bed with an additional full size single bed underneath which rises up to full height. These can be used as a single or a twin or even a super-king sized bed. Before booking this please consider the access through The Regal Room which will impede the privacy of the occupants!

The Windmill + Windmill House,

Full central heating is installed throughout and hot water is available at all times.

Incoming and emergency outgoing calls telephones are located in the Lounge, The Rose Room and in the top occasional room.

It is very important that guests realise that this is a wooden structure and that smoking, nor, sadly, the use of naked flames such as candles are strictly not permitted.

A full fire alarm with emergency lighting has been installed together with fire extinguishers on every floor. A fire blanket is provided in the kitchen area. Additionally the building has a manually operated water reservoir between every floor to flood the building in the case of fire.

Please also note that there are a considerable number of gaps in the internal structure - placed there by design- and as such is not soundproofed between floors. Due to this The Windmill is suitable only for family members or friends and must be used as one unit.

The very top floor of the building contains the machinery for turning the entire top turret. The entire building was designed as a Windmill and as such will sway in high winds. Please be aware of this if you are subject to seasickness. It is, however, totally safe!

Sadly due to the steep staircases The Windmill is not suitable for those who are unable to manage uneven open plan staircases.

Children under the age of 10 years are restricted for safety reasons. Please, even adults, be aware that the sweet little stream that runs along the property looks very shallow but is extremely deep and full of thick mud as I discovered last Summer!
The Windmill is not able to accommodate pets.

The Windmill is cleaned lightly on a daily basis. Tea/coffee; soap etc., hairdryers and all linen is supplied - the beds are made with crisp white linen from a linen hire company.

A Welcome Hamper of breakfast food is provided for guests on arrival.

There are 2 local Pubs in the village - one is a just around the corner from the Mill and serves excellent home-cooked food. There is also a Take-Away Fish and Chip/Chinese within a few yards.

The Village has several shops including a general purpose Grocery store about 1 minute's walk from The Mill.

A train station serves Windsor and London and this is a 10 minute walk away.

Cars can be parked either in the local Car Park - next door to The Bowling Green, outside The Mill by The Splash or at my other property -Windmill House - whose grounds inter connect with The Windmill.
