Other accommodation near Wolverhampton

Of all the cities that have stood for centuries in England, few have seen and endured as many things as Wolverhampton, located in the West Midlands. Even fewer cities have managed to stay as integral and relevant throughout the years as this same city, and this fact a testament to the citizens who make up this truly unique town.

The Wolverhampton of today is an industrial wonderland that creates some of the most advanced technology in all of Europe. Major engineering firms create futuristic cars and motorcycles and the city was the home of the first car to ever hold a land speed record of over two hundred miles an hour. The aerospace industry in Wolverhampton is one of the most important in the continent and the city has had a grip on the pulse of industry and technology ever since the Industrial Revolution when coal, limestone, and iron were all produced in Wolverhampton. Despite this, the city is rich with cultural history and has been ever since the 900s when it was a Saxon stronghold that held none of the impressive edifices that are now synonymous with its name. Hints to the industrial giant the city would become, however, are found as early as the 1300s when Wolverhampton became one of the largest and most important cities for trading wool.

An interesting aspect of Wolverhampton is that its population is highly diverse and unorthodox in comparison to many of its surrounding cities. A high percentage of the citizens are over sixty years of age and, more interestingly, the population of those over sixty is higher than the population of those under fifteen. The level of young people in Wolverhampton has actually been in decline in recent years and, considering the city is the thirteenth largest in England, this is a strange occurrence indeed. Ethnically, Wolverhampton is similarly varied. Over twenty-five percent of the population is black and nearly thirteen percent is Indian, making Wolverhampton one of the most Indian-rich cities in all of England. Such diversity sometimes creates impressive artistic expression and, not surprisingly, some of the most popular musical acts in the United Kingdom have come out of the melting pot of Wolverhampton. Hard rockers like Babylon Zoo and Slade have sprung up from the same soil as Soul giants like Beverley Knight and Jamelia. Wolverhampton appropriately nurtures its burgeoning acts as well, offering massive venues like Wolverhampton Civic Hall and Wulfrun Hall to local performers and music fans. The Molineux Stadium is another huge arena that regularly hosts international stars like Bon Jovi.

Whether it is manufacturing the future of the western world or enriching and expanding the minds of its diverse citizens, Wolverhampton has consistently been an epicenter of education and growth. Its beautiful and impressive architecture has changed faces a time or two throughout the centuries but the city and its citizens have always been among the most interesting and varied in all of England as well as throughout the entire world. If you have yet to step foot in this wondrous town, you're missing out on the experience of a lifetime.
