Glasgow Hotels and Guest Houses

Glasgow is considered by many as the true capital of Scotland. Not only is it bigger than Edinburgh, but it is also more attractive to visitors. One can arrive in Glasgow via air to Prestwick Airport near Ayr which is about 45 minutes by train or to Glasgow International located in Paisley. This is only 15 minutes by train or taxi away from the city centre. Another option is to arrive by train as almost all of Britain has excellent links. One can even travel directly from London to Glasgow. Once arrived at Glasgow Central Station you can take any exit and be soaking up the atmosphere. Through the main exit you will wander on George Street from which you only have to take a few steps to get to Buchanan Street. This is one of Britain's best shopping streets with anything from House of Fraser to Virgin located on it. If you turn right from Buchanan Street you will end up on Queen Street where the second rail station (and services to Edinburgh) is located. George square is also here and you will find thousands of city folk enjoying their lunches here while looking at other people. If you keep going away from the city you will find the Merchant City where after good looking you can find "Merchant Square" located in the old fruit market. This is a collection of restaurants and bars with great variety in menu.

Take a 15 minute walk further away from the city and you will end up in the East End where you can find one of the nicest football stadiums in the world; Celtic Park also known as Parkhead after the area it is located in. Just opposite the stadium you will find a large shopping centre and just a stone throw away from that a lovely indoor flea market.

If you have decided to go the other way from the central station you will end up in the West End. This is the spot to go for a quality meal or an exclusive drink. The who is who of Glasgow visit here and the language is completely different than that of the East End. If you take a short 5 minute walk towards the River Clyde you will not find anything about the history of Glasgow anymore as the shipbuilding industry has almost completely left these shores, but you will get a great view of the new developments. You can see a brand new casino as well as the new buildings for STV and the BBC. If you cross the Clyde to take a look, but turn away towards Ibrox you will be able to see the stadium of the other Glaswegian giant, Glasgow Rangers.

Take a guided bus tour from George Square so that you can take it all in, because there is too much to see in Glasgow to mention here, but make sure you do not miss out on the Royal Infirmary hospital and the nearby church. These are buildings of extreme beauty and the church has some fantastic ceilings and windows.
