The city of Knutsford, in the lovely county of Cheshire, is one of the more historically significant parts of England. This may not seem like a major claim considering the fact that almost every part of England is historically significant inasmuch as the country is so old but Knutsford is unique in that it has been an important part of world affairs even beyond the days of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance; something that quite a few English cities that were once prominent can no longer claim. Much of Knutsford's history has centered around conflict and battle and this makes the town all the more integral and important although it should be noted now that a visit to the city will only bring feelings of beauty and wonder instead of pain and suffering. That is yet another trait of Knutsford: It is so downright beautiful that one can scarcely think for a second that it has seen so much strife and anguish.
Knutsford is not far from the River Lily and though the name of the river evokes beauty the truth of the matter is that, in the early days of Knutsford's inception into the famed Domesday Book, the area around the River Lily was one of the most dangerous in all the land. Knutsford arose as a result of battles between William the Conqueror and King Canute and it was the site of intermittent struggles from then on. Even in the twentieth century Knutsford was the place where General Patton gave his famous speech right before the invasion of Normandy Beach in World War Two. After the war there were even more struggles as the town became the site for a very divisive slum community which was meant to lighten the burden of towns that were already overrun with poor inhabitants. This naturally caused even more strife in a town that was still trying to pick up the pieces after the war.
In spite of all these struggles, Knutsford as we now know it is a thriving, beautiful city that has little to no violence these days. As a matter of fact recent studies show that Knutsford is in fact the most expensive English city in which to buy a house. Though this is a double-edged sword it nonetheless proves in some capacity that Knutsford is a well-respected and enjoyable town. A large part of the town's economy is based on people coming from outside the town to spend a day in Knutsford. As such the city is filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, museums, and all kinds of diversions to attract outsiders. Even as we speak Knutsford is hard at work creating even more exciting shops and upscale boutiques and most people who have been to Knutsford remark that they go as often as they can because there is always something new to see with each visit. Though it may be too soon to speak, there is evidence that Knutsford is finally back on top and free from strife and worry.
