Newport, one of Wales' most interesting cities, is located in the Gwent Vale of Glamorgan and is the largest urban area within the historic county boundaries of Monmouthshire. Newport is an amazingly beautiful city, incorporating rural areas as well as built up area, setting a standard for other cities to follow. Newport is a fantastic area to visit, if not for its amazing attractions, nightlife and shopping, then just for the amazing views and great history.
Newport has a great reputation in sports, and is soon to host the Ryder Cup. This sporting achievement, amongst others, has led to the development and opening of a new stadium and sports complex, which is an amazing spectacle to witness a sporting event in. There are many activities and sports you can participate in, meaning Newport is perfect for the active individual.
However, Newport is also up and coming in the arts world, with the Riverfront Arts Centre, which is a home from home for the artist, or even those who are just interested. The Riverfront Arts Centre features a gallery, cinema, talks and workshops allowing you to experience a rich diversity in artistic forms. Performances also vary across the centre, with Classical Music performances, Comedy, Dance, Opera and Pantomime scheduled in the diary as upcoming events.
Newport is also well recognised for it's amazing night-life, with a brilliant selection of pubs, clubs, bars and eateries spread out across the whole city. Perhaps the most famous venue is T.J.'s, an alternative music club that was the location of the proposal of marriage from Kurt Cobain to Courtney Love! There is a fantastic array of venues catering to many different tastes so nobody will be disappointed with the choices.
If all this city life gets a bit too much for you, there is an escape on offer, with the Newport Wetlands Reserve. A fabulous collection of flora and fauna, with spectacular landscapes and tranquil walks, where you can spot everything in the way of birds, mammals, trees and other plant life. It's rare to find a place like Newport, where there literally is something to suit every mood and manner.
