Other accommodation near Portree

The Isle of Skye is easily among the most beautiful locations in the United Kingdom and it is here that we find the equally lovely town of Portree. Portree is in fact the largest town in Skye and despite its size it still retains the elements of an incredibly gorgeous town. The landscapes in Portree are second to none and watching a Portree sunset is akin to traveling to a new and amazing dimension of color and sight. The town itself is also completely unique and this also does a lot to make Portree seem like a land lost in time yet timeless itself. The vast majority of the residents of Portree speak Scottish Gaelic and the charming dialect is truly fantastic and this alone makes a visit to Portree worth it. Be careful, though: Many people who come to Portree to see what all the fuss is about find themselves becoming residents simply because it is so difficult to leave this wonderland.

One of the most lovely aspects of Portree (aside from the downright charming dialogue) is the famed Portree harbour. This beautiful harbour is flanked on all sides by beautiful and imposing cliffs that further make the town look like some kind of magical world where shipwreck survivors can live out the rest of their lives in bliss and wonder. There is also a gorgeous pier on the harbor that was made by none other than architect extraordinaire Thomas Telford. Telford himself was positively enthralled with the appearance of Portree and made it a point to work diligently at creating something that would do justice to the land that he loved. He succeeded admirably. In keeping with the decidedly Gaelic heritage that the citizens of Portree are all too proud to boast about, Portree is also home to the famed Aros Centre. This museum of sorts is dedicated to all things Gaelic and anybody who is interested in the rich and fascinating history of the Scottish Gaelic people will find much to love in this location. Even those who never thought they were interested in the history of Gaelic culture often find that their minds and spirits soar upon learning about this stunning chapter of the past.

Portree is also popular in modern pop culture thanks to one J.K. Rowling. In her unbelievably popular Harry Potter series it is Portree that is the home of one of the Quiddich teams, a fictional sport. Though this bit of trivia is not exactly the kind of thing that brings tourists rushing into Portree on a daily basis the town has plenty of amazing buildings and scenery that in fact does bring vacationers to its shores all year round. If you have yet to pay a visit to this stunning piece of land in the Highlands it is recommended that you do so as soon as possible but make sure that you know there won't be any Quiddich games occurring.
